Seekario vs ChatGPT, updated October 2026
ChatGPT is a brilliant blank page. But a job search isn't one prompt. It's dozens of applications, and each one needs an honest read on your fit, a tailored resume, a cover letter, interview prep, and follow-ups. Seekario gives you a dedicated tool for every step, scores every job against the same bar, and won't make anything up to close a gap.
Below the 80 interview bar
ChatGPT is a general assistant: it does whatever you ask, as well as you ask it. Seekario is a job application platform: it already knows what each step needs, holds every application in one place, and tells you plainly when a job isn't a fit.
Most job seekers don't pick ChatGPT from a list of job search tools. It's simply the AI they already have open. And it has improved: since June 2026, OpenAI says ChatGPT can surface live job listings (in the US) and lets you upload or create a resume, tailor it to a role, and download it formatted.
So the real question isn't "which one has more features?" It's this:
Do you want an assistant you have to direct, or a system that directs the process for you?
With ChatGPT, the quality of every output depends on two things: how good your prompt is, and whether you already know what good looks like. You decide what to ask. You decide what counts as a strong match. You decide whether a gap matters. You check whether the number in your third bullet point is actually true.
Seekario builds those decisions in. Every job is scored the same way. Every fix is ranked by severity. Every gap is labelled as a real skill gap or something you simply haven't written down. No generic chatbot advice, just the right tool at each step.
The rest of this page shows what that looks like, using real Seekario output.
Here's what preparing a single application looks like in each.
| Step | In ChatGPT | In Seekario |
|---|---|---|
| 1Save the job | Copy the posting into a chat, or find it with ChatGPT's job search (US only). | Save it in one click from LinkedIn, Seek, Indeed, and other sites with the Chrome extension, or add it from Job Search. Salary, company details, and keywords come with it. |
| 2Check your fit | Ask how well you match. The scale, criteria, and strictness are whatever your prompt sets. | Pick which of your resumes to use. You get a score out of 100 against an 80-point interview bar, four sub-scores, and a Strong, Partial, or Poor fit label on the card. |
| 3Decide what to fix | Ask follow-up questions until you have a plan. | Open the report: "the one thing" to fix first, then fixes ranked Critical or High, each with the section to change and the text to add. |
| 4Tailor your resume | Ask for a rewrite, then check every line for claims you can't back up. | Run the Tailor. Missing metrics become [[INSERT_A_METRIC_HERE]] placeholders, and if you don't meet the role's must-haves, it says so instead of writing a summary. |
| 5Cover letter or KSC | Start a new prompt. Paste in the selection criteria yourself. | Generate both from the same card. The KSC Letter pulls the criteria from the ad for you. |
| 6Interview prep | Ask for likely questions, or role-play an interview in Voice and ask for feedback. | Start a mock interview from the card. It adds follow-ups aimed at your weakest dimension for this job and scores every answer. |
| 7Follow up | Prompt for each message. On Plus, ChatGPT can draft and send email through a connected Gmail or Outlook account on the web. | Save the recruiter to the card, pick a goal such as "Requesting informational interview," and generate a LinkedIn message or email. Eight follow-up templates cover every stage. |
| 8Track it | Keep your own spreadsheet, or rely on chat history and memory. | Move the card through Initiated, Applied, Shortlisted, Rejected, and Hired, with a dated timeline of each stage. |
Now do that for 30 applications. In ChatGPT, every step is a fresh prompt and every check is on you. In Seekario, it's the same eight steps on every job card, with nothing to set up and nothing to remember.
Start for freeA match score is only useful if it can come back low.
ChatGPT will assess your fit if you ask. But there's no fixed bar: change the wording of your prompt and you can get a different scale, different criteria, and a different verdict. That makes scores hard to compare from one job to the next, and hard to trust when you're deciding where to spend your time.
Seekario's AI Role Assessment scores every job the same way. Here's a real example: a senior AI leader's resume, assessed against a Head of AI Engineering role. It scored 72, flagged "Below the 80 interview bar," with sub-scores for technical skills, soft skills, industry skills, and keywords.
The report doesn't stop at the number:
The most important fix was marked Critical and pinned to the candidate's current role. The assessment pointed out that they almost certainly had production operations experience from running their own AI platform and just hadn't said so. So instead of inventing anything, it suggested a bullet built from a figure already on the resume:
"Owned production operations, establishing monitoring, alerting, and incident response protocols for the AI platform, maintaining 99% availability and leading triage for production issues."
The 99% came from the candidate's own resume. The suggestion only made visible what was already there.
Ask a general AI to make your resume fit a job, and it will try its best to make it fit. That's the problem when the job genuinely isn't a match.
We tested this with the same AI leader's resume against a tenure-track faculty position in a sociology department. The Role Assessment scored it 28, a Poor fit. Then we ran the AI Resume Tailor anyway. Instead of a professional summary, it wrote this:
28 of 100, Poor fit
"This candidate's resume does not support the core non-negotiable requirements of this role. … No honest summary can bridge this gap without fabrication. I am unable to produce a summary for this pairing."
The must-have it couldn't get around was a PhD in sociology. The candidate's PhD is in computer science, and the Tailor said so rather than blurring it.
When a role is a real fit but a bullet needs a number your resume doesn't contain, the Tailor leaves a highlighted placeholder instead of a guess, for example: "achieving a [[INSERT_A_METRIC_HERE]]% reduction in operational redundancies." The AI Resume Builder works the same way, asking things like [[METRIC: how many courses or cohorts?]] when your career story leaves something out.
ChatGPT can be careful too, if you ask it to be. But OpenAI itself reminds users that ChatGPT can make mistakes and that important information should be checked. On a resume, every claim is one you may have to defend in an interview, so Seekario makes the safe behaviour the default.
Ask ChatGPT whether your resume is good, and "good" means whatever it guesses you want. Seekario's AI Resume Audit judges your resume against a specific target level, from Fresh Grad to Executive.
Run against a Director-level target, the same AI leader's resume scored 74%, "Needs Improvement," with Impact 76, Structure 70, and ATS 76. The executive summary didn't soften it: the resume positioned the candidate as a "One-Man Army" rather than a strategic leader, and the advice was to pivot from "I built this" to "I directed the strategy that enabled this."
What the audit returned:
The rewrite changes the framing, not the facts: the 20+ features and the 65% stay exactly as they were.
ChatGPT's Voice mode is genuinely impressive: it listens and talks at the same time, and you can interrupt it like a real person. Ask it to play an interviewer and it will. What it won't do on its own is score each answer against the job, keep a record of your progress, or show you a stronger version of your answer.
Seekario's AI Interview Assistant builds questions from the job ad and your resume, including the awkward ones a real interviewer would spot. In one mock interview, it noticed the candidate had stayed in a previous role for only about a year before starting their own company, and asked them to explain the transition.
The candidate typed a quick, two-sentence answer about seeing an opportunity in generative AI. It scored 40%, Weak Answer. The feedback credited the clear motivation, then pointed out that the answer skipped half the question: it never addressed the previous role or why that chapter ended so quickly, which could leave an interviewer wondering. It suggested opening with a highlight from that role, then framing the move as a logical next step. Below that came an AI Recommended Answer, written from the candidate's own experience.
You can answer by typing or by voice, and choose Screening, Behavioural, Technical, or Case interviews. Every mock interview is saved by company and role, with a filter by interview type, bookmarks, how many questions you've practised (for example, 13 of 17), and your overall score.
A long ChatGPT job search tends to sprawl across dozens of chats. Projects and memory help, but on the Free plan OpenAI lists memory and context as limited, so details from earlier applications can drop out of view.
In Seekario, every job gets its own card on a kanban board, and the card's Prepare tab holds everything for that application:
Other tabs on the same card hold the job's important keywords, company information (rating, headquarters, industry, size, year founded, what employees rate highly, and common complaints), a salary estimate with its source, the application status timeline, contacts and outreach, AI follow-ups, interview details, and notes. A recommended-action banner suggests your next step, such as creating a mock interview once you're shortlisted. Job alerts tell you when new roles that may fit your profile are posted.
The Application Tracker is unlimited and free on every plan, forever.
You could try to recreate these in ChatGPT with enough prompting. In Seekario, they're ready to use:
We'd rather you pick the right tool than the one we sell. ChatGPT genuinely wins on these:

On Free and Plus, OpenAI says conversation content can be used to train its models, with an opt-out available in your settings. Temporary Chat keeps a conversation out of your history and memory. Free (and Go) users in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada also see ads; Plus is ad-free.
Seekario never sells user data and never gives resumes to other companies to train their models. It does study resumes in aggregate, with identifying details removed, to improve its tools.

| Plan | Seekario | ChatGPT |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0, no card: 5 one-time AI credits, plus an unlimited tracker, job search, job imports, and contacts | $0: unlimited text chats; limited uploads, memory, images, and deep research; ads in some countries |
| Entry paid | Casual: $12/month, 40 AI credits | Go: $8/month (more capacity, still with ads) |

| Quarterly | Active: $79/quarter (≈ $26.33/month) | No quarterly option listed for Plus |
On Seekario Casual, each tool shows its credit cost on the job card. A tailored resume (2 credits) plus a cover letter (1 credit) costs 3 credits, so 40 credits cover about 13 applications a month. A mock interview costs 5 credits. All AI tools are available on every paid plan; plans differ only in volume.
Where ChatGPT is cheaper: at $0, and for unlimited use. Plus costs $60 over three months versus $79 for Seekario Active.
Already paying for Plus? Keep it for everything else. The question is whether a job search built around fit scores, guardrails, scored interviews, and tracking is worth $12 to $39 a month for the months you're searching. For most active job seekers, one extra interview answers that.
If you need to stay at $0, ChatGPT Free gives you more AI use. If you can spend $12, Seekario's Fresh Grad level, placeholders that show you exactly what to add, and a Sample Resume of the ideal candidate give you structure a blank chat can't.
Verdict: ChatGPT at $0; Seekario from $12Seekario audits your resume against the level you're targeting, up to Executive. As the Director audit above shows, it flags when your resume reads as a different level and tells you which skills to cut and which to prove. Its Technical and Case mock interviews are built from your career history, and every answer is scored.
Verdict: SeekarioThe hardest question when you change careers is whether a gap is real or just unwritten. Seekario's Reality Check answers it for every job, the Tailor reframes your experience without inventing anything, and the Career Profiler suggests roles that fit how you work, along with roles that would grind on you.
Verdict: SeekarioSeekario's KSC Response Writer pulls each criterion from the ad and answers it in STAR format from your resume's evidence. In ChatGPT, you'd paste the criteria and prompt for each response yourself.
Verdict: SeekarioSeekario Active gives unlimited tailoring for $79 a quarter, and each tailor takes under two minutes. Its fit score also helps you skip roles that aren't worth the effort. If your priority is having an agent work through application forms, ChatGPT Plus's Work agent can operate in a browser with your approval.
Verdict: Seekario for stronger, tracked applications; ChatGPT Plus if browser automation matters mostChatGPT's live job search is handy for discovery. When you find a role worth applying for, save it to Seekario to score, tailor, and track it.
Verdict: ChatGPT to browse, Seekario to applyFor most people who want more interviews, yes. Seekario scores every job against the same interview bar, fixes gaps without inventing facts, scores your mock interview answers, and keeps every application on one card. ChatGPT is the better choice if you need to stay at $0 or want one assistant for everything.
You can, and since June 2026 ChatGPT can format a resume and tailor it to a role. The difference is what happens around the writing: Seekario tells you how you score against the job, which gaps are real, and what to fix first, and its Tailor won't fill a missing metric with a guess or write a summary for a role you don't qualify for.
Yes. OpenAI says ChatGPT can surface live listings from sources like Indeed, Upwork, and Appcast, but only for US users. You apply on the source site. Seekario's Job Search covers aggregated listings with salary trends and job alerts, and its tracker is unlimited and free.
ChatGPT Plus is $20 a month. Seekario is free to start, then $12 a month (40 credits), $39 a month (unlimited), or $79 a quarter (unlimited). Prices are in USD as of October 2026.
Yes. The Free Forever plan needs no card and includes 5 AI credits, an unlimited application tracker, job search, job imports, the resume builder, and the Chrome extension, with no time limit.
On Free and Plus, OpenAI says your content can be used to train its models unless you opt out in settings. Seekario never sells your data and never gives resumes to other companies to train their models.
The Tailor and Builder are designed not to. Where a metric or detail is missing, they insert a highlighted placeholder for you to fill in. If you don't meet a role's non-negotiable requirements, the Tailor tells you instead of writing around them. You can edit or reject every change before you download.
No. Seekario focuses on making each application stronger and keeping it on track. ChatGPT doesn't offer a dedicated auto-apply feature either.
Yes, and plenty of people keep ChatGPT for everything outside the job search. For the applications themselves, Seekario covers every step, from fit score to follow-up, so you don't need to rebuild the process in a chat.
ChatGPT is a great assistant for almost anything. But a job search rewards structure: an honest read on every job, fixes you can stand behind, practice that's scored, and one place to keep it all. That's what Seekario is built for.
